Apple’s AI Falls Behind Google in Phone Scam Detection, Studies Show
Apple's iPhone continues to lag behind Alphabet's Google in AI-driven scam protection, according to independent studies from YouGov, Counterpoint Research, and Leviathan Security. Android users report fewer fraud attempts and greater trust in their devices' safeguards compared to iPhone users.
The research, conducted across the U.S., India, and Brazil, found Android users were 58% more likely to receive no scam texts in the week prior to the survey. Google's Pixel phones demonstrated an even wider performance gap. Only one in five Android users described scam protection as highly effective, while iPhone users were 150% more likely to report failures in blocking fraudulent activity.
Security analysts evaluated four flagship models—Google's Pixel, Samsung's Galaxy, Motorola's Razr, and Apple's iPhone 17 Pro—highlighting the competitive edge of Android's AI defenses. The findings underscore growing concerns about Apple's position in the AI arms race as consumers increasingly prioritize security features.
